With only one game on the docket for homecoming on Friday night in Newbern after the girls’ contest was canceled due to illness on the Peabody girls team, the Tide proved to be unwelcome guests for Homecoming 2025 as the Peabody boys took an 87-71 win over the Choctaws at Dyer County High School.

Led by six points from Jayden Tyler as well as a jumper and a three-pointer by Ryker Hayes, the Choctaws matched the Tide point-for-point through the opening quarter and played to an 18-18 tie after one frame.

Despite a trio of three-pointers from the Tide’s Emmanuel Cannon, the Choctaws were able to say within striking distance. Five points from Jamin Gauldin as well as buckets from Devin Hayward and Triston Seabourn helped keep Dyer County in it as the orange and white trailed 29-27 at the half.

Following the homecoming festivities, the Tide came out strong, scoring 27 points in the first eight minutes of the second half to nearly double their entire first-half output. Meanwhile, Dyer County was able to tack on 18, led by eight by Gauldin to trail 56-45 after three frames.

Dyer County got nine points from Gauldin in the fourth quarter and seven from Hayward. But, The Tide scored 31 in the final frame to take the 16-point win.

Gauldin led the way for the Choctaws with 22 points while Hayward added 12. Seabourn tossed in 11 while Tyler scored 10 in the loss for Dyer County.
