A Word From The Outlaw 010

"If your dreams don't scare you, then your dreams aren't big enough." - CM Punk

Coming out of spring break and the district matchups have already begun for baseball and softball here locally.

Baseball is always a fun and seemingly fast one when it comes to the schedule as, with District 13-3A and 14-1A, you typically got two of these district games a week. While I am sure there are multiple reasons for this scheduling, one of my favorite competitive reasons for this is that teams can’t pitch their top starter in both games of the district matchups – unless some weird postponement happens.

District 13-3A has been kind enough to fans here from Dyer County and Dyersburg since the two were placed in the same district in putting them against each other the first week of the district season.

It’s been a fun rivalry to watch as we typically get at least one good game out of the two between the two schools. Dyer County has the lead in the series but Dyersburg has picked up its share of wins as well in what has been a fun rivalry to watch since the spring of 2022.

In taking my venture that is JP Productions Sports into Lake County, it's fun to be back doing some Class A sports again. There’s just something about being around a small community that loves their sports that brings back really good memories for me.

But, I’ve been fortunate to have worked around communities throughout my entire career which have been sports-loving towns and cities. To me, how the fans turn out when a team is struggling shows you just how much they love their sports. Dyer County, Dyersburg, Westview, Dresden, Gleason, Greenfield, and, now, Lake County have impressed me with their passion for their sports teams.

Over the course of the last couple years, I have been told countless times one of the main reasons people read the paper is because of the local sports, obituaries and court report. Now, they could be telling me this because of my line of work, but I don’t think that many people would be sparing my feelings if there wasn’t some truth to it.

This past Friday was the two-month anniversary of the launching of JP Productions Sports. This column you’re reading marks post #150 for the new venture on blogspot. I would be negligent if I didn’t go ahead and thank my sponsors for all their support over the past two months.

The JP Production Sports Family of Sponsors include: C & C Pharmacy, Diary Queen of Tiptonville, Dave’s on the Square, DOT Foods, Dyersburg City Schools, Dyersburg Dental Associates, Forcum Lannom, Dyersburg Mayor John Holden, Johnson-Williams Funeral Home, Lake County Schools, McDonald’s, Newbern Drug, Newbern Hardware, Security Bank, Simmons Bank, Smitty’s Painting and Pressure Washing, Stage 4 Media, Vanedda Prince Webb: Attorney at Law, White & Associates Insurance, and West Tennessee Dental Group.

A big thank you also needs to go out to the folks who have tipped and especially those who have made donations to the cause.

JP Productions Sports may be my company, but I really want it to feel like OUR company. OUR family. For OUR athletes from Dyer County, Dyersburg, Dyersburg State and Lake County.
