Lady Falcons dominate Fulton County for first win

The Lake County softball team snapped its three-game losing streak to start the season on Thursday, dispatching Fulton County, Ky. 15-0 in three innings behind a no-hitter from Lady Falcon hurler Kensi Hays, who faced two over the minimum in the three-inning win.

After Kensi Hays got through the first inning by striking out three of the four batters she faced, the Lady Falcons rewarded her with a ton of run support. Mariah Valentine drew a walk to lead off the frame then Caron Johnson singled. Valentine scored on a wild pitch then Johnson did the same moments later. With one out, Karsyn Hays scored on a wild pitch then Rachel Mahan reached on a dropped third strike which also saw Kaitlin Jones score to put Lake County on top 4-0.

Later in the same inning with the bases loaded, Tara Boyd drew a walk to score a run then Valentine was hit by a pitch to plate another run for a six-run lead. Johnson singled in two runs then Kensi Hays singled in two more to help her own cause and give the Lady Falcons a 10-0 lead.

Kensi Hays worked around a leadoff walk to strike out two of the next three batters to get through the top of the second.

Lake County picked up where the Lady Falcons left off in the bottom of the second. Three walks loaded the bases for the green and gold with two outs with a fourth walk, this one drawn by Johnson, plated a run. Kensi Hays then helped her own cause in the circle, reaching on an error that allowed two runs to score and push Lake County’s lead to 13-0 after two innings.

Kensi Hays struck out all three batters in the top of the third inning to maintain the lead of a baker’s dozen.

After Alexia Sanders drew a bases-loaded walk to plate a run in the bottom of the third, Bella Estes scored on a passed ball to bring the mercy rule into play and secure the Lake County win.

Johnson led the way at the plate for the Lady Falcons with two singles and two RBI in the win.

Hays struck out eight batters in the three-inning no-hit win.

Lake County returns to action on Friday when the Lady Falcons host Gleason at 5 p.m. in District 14-A action.
