Dyersburg got the month of March wrapped up and started the week off with on the right track with a 3-0 win over visiting Covington at Doug French Field on Monday evening.

After getting a single from Avery Hicks in the bottom of the first and a one-out double by Addie Gatlin in the bottom of the second, Dyersburg broke through to get on the board the following inning. Bella Turnage singled to lead off the inning then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. But, the next two batters were retired and it looked as though Turnage was going to be stranded at third. Hicks came through, singling her in to put Dyersburg on top 1-0 after three innings.

The Lady Trojans got on the board again in the bottom of the fifth. Chelby Jordan singled then stole second before advancing to third on an Izzie Odom groundout. Again it was Hicks, this time flying out to center to plate Jordan and double the Dyersburg lead at 2-0 after five frames.

Back-to-back hits in the bottom of the sixth gave the Lady Trojans some insurance as Murphy Morgan singled then scored on Gatlin double. Dyersburg took a 3-0 lead into the top of the seventh.

From there, Gatlin and the Dyersburg defense retired the Lady Chargers in order to secure the win.

Gatlin had a pair of doubles and a single to lead the way at the plate for Dyersburg while Hicks had two singles as two RBI in the win.

Gatlin went the distance in the circle, allowing only five hits in the shutout with seven strikeouts.

Dyersburg returns to action on Tuesday when the Lady Trojans travel to Dyer to take on Gibson County at 5:30 p.m.
