Playing on their home court in the TSSAA Class 3A Sectional Round for the third straight March, Dyersburg jumped out to a big lead early then cruised to their third straight sectional win with an 80-33 victory over visiting Millington on Saturday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.

Dyersburg never trailed on Saturday night though Millington was able to answer an early three-pointer from Chelby Jordan with a trey by Arianna Whiten to make it a 3-3 game with 6:29 left in the first quarter. This tie only lasted just over 20 seconds. Kay Kay Strayhorn broke the tie with a three-pointer which also sparked a 20-0 run through much of the next few minutes. The hosting Lady Trojans also got three-pointers from Aerie Quinn and Joy Crawford as well as a pair of Jordan jumpers before Strayhorn capped the run with another three-pointer. Dyersburg took a comfortable 27-6 lead into the second quarter following a late Kathleen Harrell layup.

Buckets from Jordan and Crawford opened the second quarter. Dyersburg also got three-pointers by Strayhorn and Harrell before a Jordan trey midway through the quarter to take a 42-10 lead. With the Dyersburg bench coming into the game for the final half of the second frame, the Lady Trojans took a commanding 44-15 lead after a late run by Millington to end the first half.

Thanks to early buckets from Crawford, Maclin, Jordan and Strayhorn, the Lady Trojans pulled away completely in the third quarter. With the reserves taking the floor, Lily Kate Jones hit a three-pointer and a jumper to lead the way for the second string as Dyersburg took a 70-25 lead into the final frame.

With the clock running in mercy rule during the final quarter for Dyersburg on this side of the Tennessee River, the Lady Trojans cruised to the sectional win to earn the right to defend its TSSAA Class 3A State Title on the biggest stage in high school basketball in Tennessee.

Crawford and Jordan each led the way for the Lady Trojans with 14 points each while Strayhorn added 13 in the win.

Dyersburg advances to the TSSAA Class 3A State Tournament where the Lady Trojans will face White County, who defeated Lenior City 52-28 in their sectional matchup. The black and gold are scheduled to take the court on Thursday at 12:45 p.m. in the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
