Lake County scores a ton in win at Fulton County


The Lady Falcons picked up their second win of the season on Thursday, traveling into Kentucky and returning from Fulton County with a 22-5 win over the Lady Pilots.

Lake County had a pair of big innings to set the tone for the win. After being walked to lead off the game, Mariah Valentine scored by stealing home to put the Lady Falcons on top 1-0. Caron Johnson, who had singled, also stole home to double the Lake County lead. Kensi Hays doubled in a run then scored later in the inning on a Kylie Walley single to extend the Lady Falcon lead to four. Aaliyah Shell drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run then Valentine tripled after two runs scored during her at bat. Johnson then singled in a run before stealing home again later in the inning to put Lake County on top 9-0.

After the Lady Pilots were able to cut into the lead with a trio of runs, Lake County went back to work on offense in the top of the second inning. After Kensi Hays walked then scored later in the inning, Laken Chism singled then scored on a wild pitch. Walley also scored on a wild pitch to put Lake County back up by nine. Tara Boyd stole home moments later which was followed by a sacrifice fly from Johnson to score another run. Valentine scored on a passed ball later in the frame as did Gentri Beal. Kaitlin Jones and Kensi Hays also scored on wild pitches to put Lake County on top 18-3 after an inning and a half.

With the Lady Pilots picking up a pair in the bottom of the second, Lake County doubled that in response in the top of the third. Karsyn Hays walked and scored on a passed ball. Jordan Burpo also walked but scored on a Beal’s double to give the Lady Falcons 20 runs. Later in the inning, Mailee Hicks singled in two to put Lake County up 22-5 heading into the bottom of the third.

The Lady Falcon defense worked around a single and a walk to hold Fulton County scoreless and get the win.

Johnson had a pair of singles with two RBI to lead the way for the Lady Falcons.

Lake County returns to action on Friday when the Lady Falcons travel to Brownsville to take on Haywood at 6 p.m.
