After a week-long break due to rainy weather and its effect on West Tennessee, Lake County got back to the business of playing softball on Tuesday in Troy, falling in a doubleheader to Obion County Central in non-district action.

The Lady Rebels took the opening game, 6-3, before shutting out the Lady Falcons in Game 2, 4-0, to complete the sweep.

The Lady Rebels answered a pair of Lake County runs in the top of the second with a trio of runs in the bottom of the frame to set the tone for their three-run win in Game 1.

Central got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Piper Fraley singled then scored on an Addison Morphis single to left to put the Lady Rebels on top 1-0 after one inning.

Lake County had an answer in the top of the second. Jordyn Burpo reached on an error then advanced to second two batters later on a one-out single from Caren Johnson. Burpo scored on an error moments later then Gentri Beal plated another run on a single to give the green and gold a 2-1 lead after an inning and a half.

The Lady Rebels didn’t let the Lake County lead stand for long. A walk and an error were followed by a Preslee Johnson single to score a run then Emma Bratton’s sacrifice bunt scored another run. Jules Poore drove in another run to put Central on top 4-2 after two frames.

Lake County got one of those runs back in the top of the third. With two outs, a pair of walks loaded the bases leading to a Mariah Valentine single to score a run and cut the Central lead to 4-3 after the top of the third.

A pair of errors by the Lady Falcons led to the Lady Rebels getting that run back as the second allowed Amaya Wetzel to reach base and a run to score, extending the Central lead to 5-3 after three innings.

Central added another run in the bottom of the fourth on an error to take a three-run lead heading into the top of the fifth and final frame.

In the final frame, Audum Neblett struck out the side and sealed the win for the Lady Rebels.

Fraley had a pair of singles in the win for the Lady Rebels. Johnson, Beal, Rachel Mahan and Valentine all had singles for the Lady Falcons.

Neblett got the win in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts for Central. Lake County’s Kensi Hays took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits with a strikeout.

Four first-inning runs proved to be enough as Central made the lead hold over the next four frames to complete the sweep.

Central picked up its first run on a ground out by Morphis to plate a run. Moments later, Fraley, who’d singled earlier in the inning, scored on a passed ball. Later in the inning, a Carley Black groundout led to another run. Harlee Johnson followed with an RBI single to put the Lady Rebels up 4-0 after one inning.

Aside from Central loading the bases in the bottom of the fourth with two out, neither team put itself in a threatening position to score through the following innings as Central held on for the win.

Both teams combined for eight singles – Central with five and Lake County with three – among eight players. Neither team had an extra-base hit during the two-game set.

Central’s Jules Poore picked up the win in the circle, shutting out the Lady Falcons while allowing just three hits with six strikeouts. Kaitlin Jones took the loss for Lake County, allowing four runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Lake County returns to action on Thursday when the Lady Falcons travel to Greenfield at 4:30 p.m. Central will be back in action on Wednesday when the Lady Rebels host Caruthersville at 5 p.m.
