About 24 hours removed from utilizing a three-run fifth inning to get a win over Arlington, Dyer County battled from behind again on Tuesday. This time getting a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth to answer a pair of Dyersburg runs in the top of the inning to get the 4-2 win over the Lady Trojans in Newbern.

Dyer County had the lead going into the sixth but Dyersburg broke through to take the lead in the top half of the inning. A one-out single from Avery Hicks got things going for the Lady Trojans. With two outs, Addie Gatlin, the team’s starting pitcher, helped her own cause with a double to give the black and gold runners at second and third. Freshman Kyleigh Littles came up big with two outs as she singled to right center and scored both teammates to give the Lady Trojans a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Choctaws went to work answering Dyersburg with one out in the bottom of the frame. Rylee Key doubled then Allie Ables followed with a single to push Key to third. Natalie Armstrong then singled in a run to tie the game. Kennedy Hill followed with a two run double to center field to put Dyer County back on top 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning.

After a strikeout and a hit batter to open the frame, the Lady Trojans looked to get a rally going with a liner from Chelby Jordan to center. But, Choctaw Kierstyn Ray raced in to make a diving catch then threw to first to double-up the Dyersburg runner to get the third out of the inning and seal the win with an 8-3 double play.

The Choctaws picked up their first and only other run of the game in the bottom of the second. Key singled to lead off the frame then scored on an Armstrong single to put Dyer County up 1-0 after two innings.
