With a busy postseason looming ahead, the Dyersburg Middle School Trojans completed a perfect regular season and it came in dramatic fashion as Cooper Duggan hit a corner kick for a goal in the 69th minute – the next to last minute of the second overtime half – to give his team a 1-0 win over Obion County on Saturday night at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.

I am excited for both teams tonight. Obion County played an unbelievable game with a tremendous effort by their players,” Dyersburg Middle School Head Coach Matt Duggan said. “I’m proud of our Dyersburg team. They have trained hard and committed themselves all season. They are experiencing success and that is a result of their hard work, commitment and dedication.”

Both teams had chances during both the regulation period and the first overtime frame but Dyersburg began to take the offensive in the overtime session.

With 1:49 left in the second overtime and a potential for penalty kicks to be implemented, the Trojans forced a corner kick. The DMS goalkeeper, Duggan, raced down the field to take the kick and curved it in for the only goal of the game to get the win for the black and gold.

The win also wrapped up the District 2 championship for the Trojans.

The win came on a night when the team honored the eighth-grade members of the Trojan roster and moved the team to 9-0 on the year.

The Trojans will move into the postseason where Dyersburg will take on Bon Lin Middle School at Freeman Park in Bartlett at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the TMSAA Regional Tournament.
