Dyersburg got on the winning track in District 13-3A, picking up their first win in league play on Tuesday night while honoring the lone Lady Trojan senior with four runs of support during a 4-0 win over Obion County Central at Doug French Field.

The win also avenges the Lady Trojan loss to Central in Troy earlier this season.

After getting out of a two-on, one-out jam in the top of the first with a pair of strikeouts from senior Addie Gatlin in the circle, Dyersburg gave their pitcher her first bit of run support in the bottom of the inning. Lily Kate Jones doubled with two outs then scored on an Avery Hicks single to put the Lady Trojans on top 1-0 after one inning.

Dyersburg got a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second then doubled its lead in the bottom of the frame. Kyleigh Littles led off with a walk then advanced to third on two passed balls while Izzie Odom drew a walk. Two batters later, Bella Turnage singled in Littles to give Dyersburg a 2-0 lead. The Lady Trojans looked to have scored on a fielder’s choice but Turnage was called out for runner’s interference which took the run off the board when Odom was sent back to third. A strikeout followed to end the inning with Dyersburg’s lead at two runs.

Over the next two innings, Gatlin and the Dyersburg defense allowed only a walk to keep the Lady Rebels scoreless.

The Lady Trojans got on the board again in the bottom of the fourth as Littles was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Mallory McCaslin singled two batters later to give Dyersburg two on with one out. Turnage then doubled them both in to put the black and gold on top 4-0 after four innings.

From there, the defense held off the Lady Rebels, allowing only a single from Preslee Johnson in the fifth and a Jules Poore single in the sixth before closing out Central with three good defensive plays in the seventh to get the win.

Turnage and Jones each had a double and a single in the win to lead the way for Dyersburg at the plate.

Gatlin got the complete game shutout, striking out seven while allowing three hits to the Lady Rebels.

Lena Lannom took the loss for Central in the circle, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of work.

Dyersburg returns to action on Wednesday when the Lady Trojans host South Gibson at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, Central returns to action on Thursday when the Lady Rebels travel to Medina to take on South Gibson at 5 p.m.
