Despite giving up five runs to open the game, the Dyersburg
Middle School softball team battled back to tie the game after four innings
before a late Three Oaks score gave the Lady Choctaws a 9-8 win over the Lady Trojans
on Tuesday night at Doug French Field.
With two out in the top of the first is when the Lady Choctaws
did their damage in the opening inning. Ava Prince singled in a run then Kilayna
Roberts reached on an error to score another run. Isabel Lack tripled in two
more runs two batters later. Lack then scored later in the inning to put Three
Oaks on top 5-0 after a half inning.
Dyersburg went to work playing catch-up as Lilly Hicks reached on an error then scored two batters later when Hinleigh Spoon reached on another error to cut the Three Oaks lead to 5-1 after one inning.
The Lady Choctaws got one of those runs back in the top of
the second inning. Braelyn Fowler singled then scored later in the inning to put
Three Oaks on top 6-1 after the top of the second frame.
The Lady Trojans cut deep into the Three Oaks lead in its half
of the second frame. Desleign Strayhorn reached on an error then Anna Bailey
walked. Utilizing her speed, Strayhorn scored on a passed ball to cut the lead
to four. Tinley Newsom followed two batters later with an RBI single before
scoring later in the frame on a passed ball to cut the Three Oaks lead to 6-4
after two innings.
After neither team scored in the third frame, Three Oaks again
rallied with two outs in the top of the fourth. Prince doubled then scored on a
passed ball. Roberts then reached on an error to score a run before being
called out trying to score later on the same play to give the Lady Choctaws an 8-4
lead after three and a half innings.

cut the Three Oaks lead to one run. Paisley Wilson grounded out but drove in
the tying run to send the game into the fifth with the score knotted up at 8-8

out to score Lack and put Three Oaks on top 9-8 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

in the final two outs to secure the win.

for Three Oaks while Prince had a double and a single with one run driven in.
Newsom, Strayhorn and Spoon each had singles for the Lady Trojans.
