Despite a complete-game effort from senior hurler Audum Neblett, the Lady Rebels were limited to just two hits on the day which saw Crockett County score all its runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to a 5-0 win over Obion County Central in the consolation round of the District 13-3A Tournament in Newbern on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Cavaliers retired the first four Central batters before a Carsen Brady-Elliott single gave the Lady Rebels their first hit of the game. But, a bang-bang play of a liner to the pitcher led to a double play to end the inning and the Central threat.

Crockett County was also having its troubles getting runs across, thanks to Neblett and the Central defense, which allowed only one hit, one walk and one error through three innings.

Piper Fraley was able to get a single with two out in the top of the fourth but the next batter grounded out to end the inning with the game still scoreless.

The Lady Cavaliers answered in the bottom of the frame, getting a White double then a Thorton RBI single to break the scoreless tie. A ground out followed but scored a run to put Crockett County on top 2-0 after four innings.

After a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, the Lady Cavaliers began to pull away. Hoover and Sollis singled to lead off the inning then Carter singled to score a run. Bursey then doubled in two more to give Crockett County a 5-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.

The Lady Cavaliers worked around a leadoff walk in the top of the sixth to get out of the inning with the shutout in tact then got a 1-2-3 frame in the seventh to secure the win and advance.

Neblett took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in the season-ending loss.

With the loss, Central’s season ends with a record of 12-12.
