Crockett County bats end Trojan season

The Trojans took an early lead after the top of the first
but Crockett County answered with 10 unanswered runs to bring the Dyersburg baseball
season to a close with a 10-1 win over the black and gold in the District 13-3A
Consolation Bracket on Monday evening in Newbern.
The Trojans got out in front in the top of the first. Evan Thompson drew a leadoff walk then Ryan Wesson reached on an error before Alex Page singled to load the bases. Will Leonard then drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run and put the Trojans up 1-0 after the top of the first inning.
Crockett answered with a pair of runs in the first to take
the 2-1 lead after the first inning. The Cavaliers added a run in the third
then five in the fourth before tacking on two in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead
into the final frame. The Cavaliers then retired the Trojans in order in the
top of the seventh to secure the win and advance to the consolation bracket
final.
Dyersburg scattered three hits with JP Noblin’s double to lead off the fourth inning being the only extra base hit of the day for the Trojans.
Leonard took the loss on the mound for the Trojans,
allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts in four
innings of work.
The loss ends Dyersburg’s season with a record of 14-14.
Crockett County advanced to Monday night’s consolation bracket final to face South Gibson for the right to play Dyer County in Tuesday night’s District 13-3A Championship Game. The Cavaliers lost 1-0 to South Gibson in the second game of the night in 12 innings.
