Dyer County Cheer’s Ross signs with the University of Tennessee

After a career cheering for his high school in orange and white, Dyer County senior Jared Ross will continue to wear those colors – but a different shade or orange as the cheerleader from DCHS will cheer for the University of Tennessee this fall.

“I mean, it’s a dream come true,” Ross explained following his signing ceremony on Wednesday in the DCHS Little Theater. “My brother cheered up there and some of my best friends cheer up there.

“Just going up there continues the legacy of Dyer County Cheer. It’s just a dream come true for me.”

Ross talked about what led him to choose to be a Volunteer at the college level, which included Tennessee Head Coach Chelsea Bowlin.

“She is an absolutely amazing human being with a great personality,” Ross explained. “And she is an even better leader.

“I just get to be underneath her shadow and being coached by her is everything to me.”

Dyer County Cheer Coach Jill Powers talked about what Ross has meant to the program.

“Jared Ross is among the finest athletes I have had the opportunity to coach,” Powers explained. “He is a leader and he has got a dedication and drive that will make him successful.

“Volunteer Nation is going to be happy to have Jared Ross be a part of their program.”

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball.
