The season for the Choctaw duo of Clay Dodds and Seth LaRue came to an end on the biggest stage for a tennis doubles team in Tennessee as the Dyer County tennis doubles team fell in straight sets to the team from Murfreesboro Central on Thursday morning in Murfreesboro.

Dyer County’s duo dropped the first set of the day to the Murfreesboro Central team of Everett Smith and Anusham Shah 6-1 then fell in the second set 6-1 to end their season.

The Murfreesboro team went on to lose in the semifinals later in the day on Thursday.

Dodds and LaRue are the first doubles team from Dyer County to advance to the state tournament in the history of the Choctaw tennis program. The two were also part of the Dyer County boys team who became the first in the history of the school to win both District 14AA and Region 7AA Championships. As a team, the Choctaws fell in sectional action to Collierville.

Next season, Dyer County moves down to District 15A where the Choctaws will join teams like Dyersburg, Gibson County, Halls and Crockett County as part of a 15-team district in Region 8A.

Both Dodds and LaRue are juniors.
