Dyer County tabs Dubruiel as new Choctaw Football Head Coach

Just a day shy of former Choctaw Head Coach David Whittle’s retirement announcement last month, Dyer County announced who will follow the outgoing head coach as DCHS Defensive Coordinator Justin Dubruiel has been named the team’s new head coach.

“I am excited to be selected for the head coaching position at Dyer County,” Dubruiel said. “I want to thank all the administrators, especially Mrs. Sanders and Mrs. Mathis, for taking the time to listen to me and entrusting me with the reins of the football team. Now it’s time to continue to work and get better going into the summer.”

Dubruiel, who played high school football at Dresden and college at Bethel, began his coaching career at Dyer County as an assistant coach from 2009-2013. Dubruiel coached next at Union City from 2013-2018 where he was a part of three state championship coaching staffs. Prior to the 2018 season, Dubruiel returned to Dyer County as the team’s defensive coordinator. Since 2018, the Choctaws have made one state semifinal appearance and three state quarterfinal appearances.

“We’re proud to name Justin Dubruiel as the new Head Football Coach at Dyer County High School,” Dyer County Athletic Director Chris Parker said. “Coach Dubruiel brings a championship pedigree, having been part of multiple state title teams as an assistant coach.

“He’s also played a key role in our recent success, serving as defensive coordinator during several deep playoff runs over the past few seasons.  His leadership, experience, and passion for developing young men make him the right choice to lead the Choctaws into this next chapter.”

Dyer County will open the 2025 season on Friday, Aug. 22 when the Choctaws travel to Dyersburg in Week 1 action.
