Lady Trojans advance with mercy-rule win over Central

The Lady Trojans got their journey through the District 13-3A Tournament bracket off to a good start on Thursday evening, scoring in all five innings on the way to a 10-0 win over Obion County Central in the opening round game of the tournament in Newbern.
The Lady Trojans got on the board with a pair of runs in the
bottom of the first. Chelby Jordan led off with a single then advanced on a
sacrifice bunt by Murphy Morgan. Lily Kate Jones then singled her in to put Dyersburg
on the board. Avery Hicks followed with a groundout to score a run and give the
black and gold a 2-0 lead after one inning.
Dyersburg picked up another run in the second frame. With two
on and two out, Jordan singled in a run to extend the Lady Trojan lead to 3-0
following two innings.
The Lady Trojan offense continued to churn in the bottom of
the third. A one-out walk by Addie Gatlin was followed by a Kyleigh Littles
single. Izzie Odom then singled in a run before a Mallory McCaslin walk loaded
the bases. Two batters later, Jordan singled in two more runs to give Dyersburg
a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
Dyersburg tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth. Jones
singled the Hicks reached on an error before a Gatlin flyout scored a run.
Littles then singled in another run to put the black and gold on top 8-0 after
four frames.
The Lady Trojans were able to put the game away in the
bottom of the fifth. Jordan led off with a walk then Hicks drew another pass after
a pair of flyouts. Gatlin singled in a run before Littles followed with an RBI
single to bring the mercy rule into play and end the game.
Jordan and Littles led the way for the Lady Trojans with a
trio of singles apiece. Jones and Odom each had two singles in the win. Piper Fraley and Lena Lannom each had singles to account for Central’s only two hits of
the game.
Gatlin got the win in the circle, allowing only two hits with six strikeouts.
Dyersburg advanced to face Dyer County in the winner’s
bracket quarterfinal shortly after the Lady Trojans’ win over Central. The Lady
Rebels will face Crockett County on Friday at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.
