Trojans get OT goal, 'headed' to championship game
The DMS Trojans, their first year back in the TMSAA Postseason, are now one win away from taking home the biggest trophy in Tennessee middle school soccer as the black and gold claimed a 2-1 win over Houston Middle at West Collierville on Monday evening.
Dyersburg got on the board in the first half when Celso
Gonzalez fired a shot toward the goal that hit the crossbar only to be rebounded
by Vega Leon and put into the goal to put the Trojans up 1-0.
But, Houston proved it could score, too, getting a goal later
in the first half to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied through the second half and the
Dyersburg Trojans faced their second straight overtime game. With 1:10 left in
the overtime frame, Leon sent a corner kick towards the goal where Gonzalez
connected with a header to get it by the keeper and get the win for his team.
The Trojans will move on to Wednesday’s TMSAA Sectional
Championship Game where they will take on Collierville West. Gametime will be
announced.
