Dyer County edges out Trojans in season opener

The first regular season action of the fall took place on
Monday at The Farms as Dyer County’s boys golf team edged out Dyersburg by two strokes
to take a season-opening win.
Dyer County’s top four combined to shoot a 162 in the
three-way match with the Trojans and Madison Academic. The Choctaws were led by
Jarret Harrison with a 38 while Seth LaRue was right on his heels with a 39. Jamison
Rhodes shot a 40 on the day for the orange and white while Beau Thurman rounded
out the top for with a 45.
Dyersburg’s John David Morris matched LaRue’s 39 with one of
his own to lead the way for the Trojans. Ryan Wesson was two strokes behind him
with a 41 while Jayce Ellerbrook and Brett Horner shot matching 42s to round
out the top four for Dyersburg.
In girls action, Dyer County completed the sweep of the
three-way match as the Lady Choctaws’ duo of Lily Flagg and Kennedy Hill came
in nine strokes ahead of the field.
Hill shot a 40 while Flagg added a 50 to beat out Madison’s
top two by nine.
Dyersburg’s Cally Cook (53) and Stella Maddedn (58) took
third.
The Trojans return to action on Tuesday when Dyersburg hosts
Obion County Central and Gibson County at 4 p.m. Dyer County is in action next
on Monday, Aug. 11 when the Choctaws travel to Humboldt for the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes Tournament at 9 a.m.
