After travelling to Union City to open the preseason a week earlier,
Lake County returned home on Friday night to host Hollow Rock-Bruceton in the
Falcons’ second scrimmage of the preseason in Tiptonville.
Lake County Head Coach Hunter Short talked about some of the
things he saw from his team their second time out this August.
“Overall, I’d say we showed signs of being the team we want
to be and at times we looked like the first week of school took its toll on us
and showed our youth,” Short explained. “The days were longer than kids have
been used to for months and it showed at times when kids looked mentally
drained.”
According to the second-year Falcon head coach, there were
places where the green and gold improved against the Tigers.
“We really improved our inside run game from last week which
I was happy about,” Short said. “Another area we improved on was our DBs played
better this week and communicated pretty well.”
Short said players stepped up this week, some after not getting
much playing time the week earlier.
“I think the guys who didn’t get much playing time last week
stepped up and showed me they really want to be on the field,” Short explained.
“We had several guys step up this week and prove they deserve more playing
time.”
The Falcon head coach said finding their identity as a team
is what the Falcons need to work on during the next week heading into the end
of the preseason.
“Do we want to be a team that’s a tough hard hard-nosed team
that doesn’t care how many guys we have on the team?” Short explained. “Or do
we want to be a team that knows we are limited in numbers and uses that as an
excuse?
“We have to get all guys to buy into iron man football and
understand that it’s us together as a family unit against everyone.”
Lake County will close out its preseason on Friday night
when the Falcons take on the Dyersburg Trojans during the Star Physical Therapy-West
Tennessee Bone & Joint Clinic High School Football Jamboree at Dyersburg
High School.
