With an offensive attack that featured over 200 yards on the
ground on Friday night in Tiptonville, Obion County Central ended the game with
19 unanswered points and reclaimed the “Battle of Reelfoot” trophy with a 33-8
win over Lake County.
Central jumped out to an early lead with a pair of
first-quarter scores. With 5:58 left in the opening frame, Rebel quarterback
Tucker Phelon connected with Jaymir Harper for a 38-yard touchdown pass. The
two-point conversion failed, leaving the Rebels on top 6-0.
Later in the quarter, the Rebels went to the air again as Phelon
hit Bradley Grady for a 52-yard touchdown pass. Morgan Carpenter then added the two-point
conversion to put the Rebel lead at 14-0 with 1:11 left in the first frame.
Central was able to take that two-touchdown lead into the
half after a scoreless second quarter.
Lake County was able to gain some momentum in the third
quarter thanks to a bad snap out of the end zone by Central. The play resulted in
a safety and cut the Rebel lead to 14-2 with 6:24 left in the third quarter.
After the ensuing free kick, the Falcons took advantage of the
opportunity as Cade Lanier hit Russell Ragan for a 27-yard touchdown pass. The
two-point attempt failed, leaving Lake County trailing 14-8 with 1:29 left in the
third quarter.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Rebels, though.
Tucker Moore extended the Central lead with a nine-yard run early
in the fourth frame. The two-pointer failed, but the Rebel lead was pushed back
up to 20-8 with 10:54 left in the game.
After a stop by the Rebel defense, Central added to its lead
with an 88-yard run by Derek Argo for a score. The extra point attempt failed but
the Rebel lead grew to 26-8 with 6:10 left in the contest.
The Rebels then put the game away on their next possession
with Moore’s second score of the quarter. This time, he scored from 21 yards
out. David Corona’s extra point put Central up by 25 points and sealed the
Rebels’ capturing of the “Battle of Reelfoot” trophy.
On the ground, Central was led by Moore, who carried the ball
23 times for 167 yards and a pair of scores. Lake County was paced by Lanier
with 11 carries and 62 yards.
In the air, Phelon was 6-11-2 for 102 yards while Lanier
threw for 69 yards and completed four of his 16 passes with one touchdown.
Both teams will be on the road this week as Obion County
Central heads to Gibson County while Lake County makes the trip to St. Benedict.
