With the end of the regular season as well as the District
13AA schedule drawing closer, Dyer County took another step closer to wrapping
up the regular season championship as well as homecourt through the postseason
tournament with a three-set win over visiting Dyersburg on Thursday night in
Newbern.
The Lady Trojans were able to keep it close early, playing to a 3-3 tie. But, a 6-1 run by the Choctaws put Dyer County on top 9-4. The orange and white built an 18-10 lead before Dyersburg was able to put together a brief rally. The Choctaws closed out the win in the opening set with a Rylee Key kill to give Dyer County a 25-16 win in the opening frame.
Dyer County dominated the early going of the second set,
building a 16-7 lead. The Lady Trojans rallied to cut the lead back to 18-12
then 21-15 with Murphy Mae Morgan on the serving line. But, the Choctaws got a
late kill from Blair Acree to help the team to a second straight 25-16 win to
clinch the second set.
Dyer County has only three District 13AA games remaining
while Dyersburg plays just two more times within the district.
The Choctaws travel to Franklin this weekend for tournament
action. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when
Dyersburg travels to Crockett County at 6 p.m.
