Sparked by a pair of early touchdowns in the opening quarter, Dyersburg Middle School cruised to a 38-8 win over visiting Haywood on Thursday evening at J.C. Sawyers Stadium in Dyersburg.

The game was delayed in the second quarter after an injury to a Haywood player, resulting in the final two-plus minutes of the first half being played after halftime was taken.

When play resumed, on the first play following the break, Dyersburg’s Maksim Wright threw a Haywood running back for a loss in the end zone which resulted in a safety and two points for the Trojans. The lead was extended to 18-0 at with 2:09 left in the half.

DMS was quick to answer as quarterback Hudson Gadlage found Glynn again for a 53-yard touchdown pass with 1:32 left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion failed, leaving Dyersburg’s lead at 32-8.

Early in the fourth quarter, Bradley Beasley broke free through the Haywood defense and scrambled and run for a 45-yard touchdown run. The two-pointer failed but Dyersburg’s 38-8 lead was enough to bring the mercy rule in play.
