Dyer County opens week with sweep of Brighton

As the end of the regular season drew closer, Dyer County opened a busy week on the court with a three-set sweep of Brighton at home in Newbern on Monday night.

Dyer County was able to jump out to a double-digit lead during the first set, going on a 12-3 run late in the frame which included aces from Emma Wray and Ady Harrison. The run gave Dyer County a 21-10 lead on the way to a 25-14 win in the first set.

The Choctaws jumped out to an early lead with Evie Rogers on the serving line in the second set cut Brighton was able to battle back and cut into the Dyer County lead. The orange and white’s lead was built to 22-10 following an ace by Erin Foster. Brighton, though, had a good run in them as the Lady Cardinals battled back to cut Dyer County’s lead to 23-16. The Choctaws were able to hold off Brighton to take the second set 25-18.


The final set was all Choctaws as a pair of early aces from Harrison led the way for Dyer County’s hot start which saw the home team build a 14-6 lead after another Wray ace. The Choctaws outscored Brighton 11-1 down the stretch to seal a 25-7 win in the frame and a three-set sweep.

During the win, the Choctaws recorded 11 aces with Harrison totaling four, Wray and Foster with two and lone ones from Julie Cogdill, Zoey Morris and Rogers.

Dyer County returns to action on Tuesday when the Choctaws host Westview at 6:15 p.m.
