Dyer County takes 15A boys title, Trojans finish second

The fall sports postseason began on Monday for local high school teams as golf took center stage with the District 15A Tournament at The Farms in Dyersburg.


When the wet tournament was over after lunch, the Dyer County Choctaws emerged as the District 15A Tournament Champions with rival Dyersburg finishing as the runner-up.


Dyer County was led by Jarrett Harrison and Beau Thurman, who shot matching 72s to lead the field on the boys' side. Following a one-hole playoff, Harrison claimed the top medalist while Thurman was second.

Choctaw senior Seth LaRue scored a 79 while Jamison Rhodes added an 80 to round out the Dyer County scoring. The orange and white top four shot a combined 303 on the day.


Dyersburg was led by John David Morris with a 76 while Ryan Wesson and Brett Horner each shot 82s. Thaxton Coppage added an  83 to round out the Trojans’ score of 323.

Both teams, along with third-place South Gibson, advance to next Monday’s Region 8A Tournament at The Farms.



On the girls’ side, Dyer County finished the day with a combined score of 180, good for second place behind District 15A Champion South Gibson, who shot a 164.

The Lady Choctaws were led by Kennedy Hill’s 86, which was good for second medalist honors. Lily Flagg scored a 94 to account for the DCHS score.

Dyer County’s girls will advance to the Region 8A Tournament at The Farms next Monday.

Also advancing to the region tournament will be Dyersburg golfer Stella Madden, who shot a 97, along with teammate Cally Cook, who shot a 106. Both qualify as individuals.

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball.
