Dyer County to host North Side

Coming off a dramatic win over Crockett County to continue Region 7-4A play last week in Alamo, the Choctaws (4-0, 2-0) head towards the midway point of the season undefeated for the second straight season as Dyer County hosts North Side on Friday night in Newbern.
Dyer County Head Coach Justin Dubruiel talked about what he
wants his team to take away from last week’s win on the road.
“I loved to see the fight and resilience our team had last
Friday,” Dubruiel said. “I didn’t do a great job calling plays offensively.
“But, our kids fought through it and found a way to win.
Defensively, we had a big night by our front seven.”
Offensively, the Indians have some weapons, according to the
Dyer County head coach.
“The Javonte Smith kid is dynamic,” Dubruiel explained. “The
QB (Quinn Jenkins) has some wheels.
“They can be physical up front. It’s a pick-your-poison type
of offense.”
Dubruiel said his team is going to put a lot on its
secondary to help stop the Indians’ attack.
On the other side of the ball, Dubruiel sees a matchup
between the two teams which should be exciting to watch.
“Defensively they are good in space which is has been where
we have been good this year,” Dubruiel said. “They make it hard to fit in holes
throwing the ball but linebackers are also fast enough to get to the run game.”
Dubruiel was pretty up front about who the team needs a big
game from this Friday night against North Side.
“Everyone,” he said jokingly. “This week is going to have be
a total group effort offensively.
“The line needs to communicate well with each other. The
backs run hard and the wide receivers and QBs on the same page.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Newbern.
