Dyersburg takes first in Choctaw Classic; Wesson top medalist

After their rivals finished ahead of them in last month’s
Kickoff Classic at The Farms, Dyersburg returned the favor to Dyer County,
winning the Choctaw Classic on the same course by five strokes on Monday.
Dyersburg’s Ryan Wesson led the way in the field, winning a
five-way playoff to earn top medalist honors with a 75 on the day.
Trojan John David Morris shot a 78 while Bretty Horner added
a 79. Jayce Ellerbrook rounded out the DHS top four with an 80 to account for
the black and gold’s 312.
Dyer County was led by Beau Thurman with a 76 while Jamison
Rhodes and Seth LaRue each had 80s on the day. Dalton Muncrief shot an 81 to finish
fourth for the Choctaws and round out their 317 score.
In girls’ action, Kennedy Hill led the way for Dyer County
with an 88 while Lily Flagg scored a 96. Josie Ferguson tossed in a 100 on the
day.
Dyersburg was led by Stella Madden with a 94 and Cally Cook
scored a 109. Maddie Kate Wells added a 119 to round out the local scoring.
Dyersburg and Dyer County return to action on Tuesday when
the two are joined by Trinity Christian Academy in a three-way match hosted by DHS
at the Farms at 4 p.m.
