With seeding in the upcoming District 13AA Tournament still being
decided, Dyersburg took another step towards claiming the top seed in the bracket
and it was aided by a history-tying effort from Lady Trojan sophomore sensation
Haddy Manneh as she scored every goal in the black and gold’s 9-0 win over
Obion County Central on Thursday night at Dyersburg High School.
Manneh opened the game with five goals in the first half to
help the Lady Trojans to a 5-0 lead at the half.
The Lady Trojans continued to get the ball to Manneh in the
second half as the sophomore sensation scored four more goals to end the game
with nine, tying the mercy-rule era record for goals scored in a game.
The mercy rule in girls' high school soccer is a nine-goal
differential during the second half, which ends the game immediately.
By scoring nine against Obion County Central, not only does
Manneh tie the state record in the current era, but the sophomore breaks the
Dyersburg High School record which was set by Meridith Kerber (in 2018 against
Obion County Central) then tied by Haddy’s older sister, Zainab, in 2023
against Haywood in the first round of the Region 7AA Tournament that season.
The win puts Dyersburg one victory away from clinching the
right to host the District 13AA Tournament in October.
Dyersburg returns to action on Saturday when the Lady Trojans
travel to Jackson to take on Madison Academic at the Lambuth Campus.
