Trojans make first-ever trip to Camden Central in Week 3

Coming off a win last Friday night over Brighton to move their season record to 1-1, the Trojans will hit the road for the first time in 2025 as Dyersburg travels to Camden Central for the first time in school history this Friday night.

Heading into the Week 3 matchup, Dyersburg Head Coach Bart Stowe shared what he wants his team to take from last week’s win over the Cardinals.

“We want to keep the momentum going,” Stowe explained. “We want to learn from our mistakes.

“We’ve got a lot of ways to get better. We are a young ballclub and it’s early in the season. We’re still making mistakes that we’ve got to correct on offense, defense and special teams. All three phases, there are places to get better.”

Offensively, the Lions are really good up front, according to the Dyersburg head coach.

“We talk about the importance of guys playing up front,” Stowe pointed out. “It looks like they do a good job up front on the offensive and defensive line.

“They’re really multiple on their offensive attack and on their defensive attack. They’re playing a lot of odd front and even front.”

Stowe added the Trojans have to play good team defense.

“The past three weeks, our defense has faced three types of offense and we’re adjusting,” Stowe said. “The coaches are all working really hard and we’re getting better.

“I look forward to seeing them out there.”

Stowe looks for the secondary to be a key if the Trojans are to be successful.

“I think they’re going to challenge us – our secondary and our linebackers,” Stowe pointed out. “It starts up front playing team defense.”

The front guys on the defensive side of the ball gives Stowe and the Trojans some concern as well.

“Our offensive line has got to do a good job there,” the Trojan head coach explained. “We’ve got to have good pad level.

“We’ve got to protect the football.”

Once again, offensive line play will be a key.

“Our offensive line sets the tone and we’ve got to run the ball hard,” Stowe explained. “We’ve go to protect the ball and don’t turn it over.

“We’ve made big plays in our passing game the past two weeks. We’ve got to keep doing that. Just execute our offense. Be consistent and don’t turn the ball over.”

Stowe pointed out the correlation between turnovers and success already this season for the Trojans. It’s the guys up front, though, who will need to set the tone.

“We’ve shown what happens when we turn the ball over,” Stowe said. “Then, last Friday night, we didn’t turn it over so we had good things happen.”

Camden plays in Region 6-3A which means the Trojans could see the Lions again should both teams reach the playoffs and advance to the semifinal round.

“It’s our first road game of the year and our first time to play them,” Stowe added. “They’re a 3A opponent. They’re a possible team that you could see in the playoffs on down the line.

“We know it will be great competition and we look forward to it.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Camden.
