For the second year in a row, Bolivar Central stood in Dyer County’s path on the road to the Region 7AA Championship Match. And, for the second season in a row, the Choctaw volleyball team dispatched the Lady Tigers in straight sets on Monday to advance to Tuesday’s region championship match at Dyer County High School in Newbern.
With kills from Katie Beth Caldwell and Rylee Key as well as
a pair of aces from Evie Rogers, Dyer County jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the
opening set. A Bolivar point was followed by a 15-0 run by the Choctaws which
included kills from Key and Caldwell along with five aces from Zoey Morris to
build a commanding 20-1 lead. Dyer County then ended the set on a 5-0 run to
take a 25-2 win in the first set.
Dyer County continued to dominate into the second set as kills from Caldwell and Key helped the Choctaws build an 11-0 lead early in the first set. As Choctaw Head Coach Shanna O’Bright began to substitute players in more often, Dyer County ended the set on another tear as two kills from Emma Wray and another from Blair Acree clinched a 25-7 win in the second set.
The orange and white continued to substitute in players
during the third set which saw late kills from Caldwell and Acree on the way to
a second straight 25-7 win in the set to clinch the match.
Dyer County advances to Tuesday’s Region 7AA Tournament
Championship Game where the Choctaws will take on the winner of Monday’s second
semifinal game between Lakeland Prep and Crockett County. Tipoff for the region
championship match will be at 5:30 p.m. at Dyer County High School in Newbern.
