Dyer County looks to right the ship against Chester County

Coming off a second straight loss this past Friday night in Medina, Dyer County will look to get back on the winning track this Friday when the Choctaws (4-2, 2-2) travel to Henderson to take on Chester County in another Region 7-4A contest.

Dyer County Head Coach Justin Dubruiel said getting past the struggles from the past two weeks will be key for the Choctaws moving forward.

“It’s super important to find a way to move on,” Dubruiel said. “We can’t look back and worry about the last two losses because we have another region game this week.

“We can certainly learn from those losses and try to grow and build on what we had down the first four weeks.”

Heading into this week’s contest with Chester County, Dubruiel sees an offense which can provide challenges for the Choctaws.

“The QB (Jaden Weaver) is a hard-nosed runner, as is the running back (Heath Stewart),” the Choctaw head coach said. “They have a wide receiver (Jayden Williams) who can go up and get the ball when needed.”

It’s going to take a lot of effort from the Choctaw defense, according to Dubruiel.

“Defensively, it needs to be a whole team effort,” Dubruiel said. “We have to be physical with these guys if we want to finish out on top at the end of the night.”

On the other side of the ball, the Eagles can be just as formidable on defense as they are on offense.

“They bring some pressure, which has caused us some problems the last few weeks,” Dubruiel said. “Those same players I mentioned on offense also play defense.

“They are out there for a reason because they are their best.”

The Choctaw offense, which has struggled recently, will need to have a good game.

“Offensively, it needs to be a whole team effort again,” Dubruiel added. “We have to fight to all get on the same page and stay there.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Henderson.
