Dyersburg girls, Northview boys cruise to wins in split

An early-season meeting between two local rivals ended in a
split with Dyersburg Middle School’s girls and Northview’s boys taking big wins
on Tuesday night in Newbern.
Dyersburg girls 60, Northview 24
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a double-digit lead early
then cruised to the 36-point lead over Northview.
Led by 13 points from Desleigh Strayhorn and seven by TJ Jones, the Lady Trojans jumped out to an 11-0 run on the way to a 24-4 first-quarter lead.
Jones added 11 in the second quarter while Micah McLin added
a pair of three-pointers to extend the lead. Landri Stewart recorded the first field
goal for the Lady Choctaws midway through the second quarter as Northview
trailed 43-9 at the half.
From there, the Lady Trojans cruised to the big win over
Northview.
Jones led DMS with 28 while Strayhorn added 15. Stewart led
Northview with 10 in the loss.
Northview boys 46, Dyersburg Middle 23
Northview jumped out to a lead in the first quarter then nearly doubled its advantage in the second frame on the way to a 23-point win over the Trojans.
Choctaw Harrison Moore scored over half of the Northview
points in the opening quarter as the orange and white took a 13-5 lead over the
Trojans after one quarter.
Northview was able to add to its lead in the second quarter after five more from Moore as well as a three-pointer by Marcus Robinson. Dyersburg’s Harrison Gadledge led the way for the Trojans with a jumper and a trey but the Choctaws took a 27-14 lead into the half.
Robinson led the way for Northview in a low-scoring third
quarter with four points as the Choctaws took a 37-21 lead into the final
frame.
From there, Northview outscored the Trojans 9-2 to secure
the win.
Moore led all scorers with 19 points for Northview while Robinson
added 11 in the win. Dyersburg was led by Gadledge and Asher Edwards, each
scoring five in the loss.
Northview returns to action on Monday, Nov. 3 when the
Choctaws host Trenton at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, the Trojans and Lady Trojans are in
action next when Dyersburg Middle hosts Humboldt at 6 p.m.
