The Dyer County girls’ soccer team got its journey through the postseason underway on Tuesday night, hosting Obion County Central in the District 13AA Tournament Play-in Game in Newbern. The Choctaws lead by two goals at the half then dominated the second half for an 8-0 win over the Lady Rebels to advance to the district semifinals next Tuesday.

Dyer County punched through on the board early in the first half, getting a Lennon Brooks goal in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Choctaws were able to fend off Central during the first half but were unable to get onto the board again until under the ten-minute remaining mark of the half. In a close play by the goal, freshman Grace Webb was able to get the ball past the Central goalkeeper to extend the Dyer County lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

Dyer County held the two-goal lead through the half.

The Lady Choctaws added to their lead early in the second half as well. Dyer County got an Ava Pearson goal in the 48th minute to push its lead to three goals.

The orange and white began to add to their lead frequently down the stretch. A Brooks goal in the 64th minute was followed by Pearson’s second goal two minutes later to put Dyer County on top 5-0. Webb picked up another goal in the 68th minute to take a 6-0 lead.

Webb then completed a hat trick moments later with a goal in the 72nd minute. Pearson then completed her hat trick in the 76th minute with a goal to go up eight goals on the way to the win.

Dyer County will take on Dyersburg in the District 13AA Tournament Semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at J.C. Sawyers Stadium in Dyersburg.
