Just a year after falling in the District 13AA Tournament Semifinals, Dyersburg’s girls soccer team will battle for the district title this year as the Lady Trojans defeated rival Dyer County 8-0 in the semifinals to punch their ticket to Thursday’s title game.

Dyersburg got on the board early in the first half with a goal from Maddie Eakin on a rebound to go up 1-0 in the 13th minute of play.

It didn’t take long for the Lady Trojans to get on the board again as Haddy Manneh broke free for a goal in the 16th minute to extend the Dyersburg lead to 2-0.

Dyer County’s defense was able to hold its ground for much of the rest of the half before a second Manneh goal put the Lady Trojans on top 3-0 at the half.

The Lady Trojans added to their lead early in the second half with a Manneh goal in the 47th minute to take a 4-0 lead.

Dyersburg then benefited from a Lady Choctaw miscue as a Lady Trojan corner kick was deflected off a Dyer County defender and into the goal for the score which put the black and gold up 5-0 in the 48th minute.

The Lady Trojans were able to get two more Manneh goals in a three minute span near the midway point of the second half to push the Dyersburg lead 7-0.

A late penalty kick from Grace Ann Webb resulted in the Lady Trojans’ final goal to put Dyersburg up 8-0 in the 67th minute.

From there, Dyersburg held on to take the win while Dyer County fought off the Lady Trojan attack to complete the Lady Choctaw season.

The Lady Trojans will take on South Gibson in the District 13AA Tournament Championship at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Dyersburg High School.
