Northview’s volleyball season came to a close on Friday afternoon
at the TSSAA Division III Class A State Tournament winner’s bracket as the Lady
Choctaws took fourth place in the state following a pair of losses to wrap up
2025.
Northview fell in the semifinals in straight sets to East
Greene to move into the consolation game later in the afternoon. After winning
the first set in come-from-behind fashion against Charlotte, the Lady Choctaws fell
in three sets to the Lady Tigers to end the season fourth in the state.
Charlotte 2, Northview 1
Northview took the first set in the consolation match on
Friday afternoon but fell in the next two sets to lose in three.
A back-and-forth set looked as though it were meant to go
down to the wire and did as Northview trailed 22-19 late in the frame. After
getting the ball back, Collyns Tisza recorded an ace to cut the deficit to one.
Northview’s Harper Peery tied the game at 22-22 with a well-placed tip over the
net. Charlotte answered by taking the lead for the next point but the Lady Choctaws
responded by tying the game three times over the next few minutes before an
Emma Milligan kill put Northview on top 26-25.
Charlotte returned the favor, answering the next two points
from Northview to tie the game before a Milligan kill and one from Rylee
Peevyhouse sealed the Lady Choctaws 29-27 win in the first set.
Northview was able to keep that momentum early in the second
set as kills from Milligan and Reese Hayes helped the Lady Choctaws build a
10-6 lead. Northview was able to maintain control after a Peevyhouse ace put
the orange and white back on top 15-14. But, Charlotte went on a tear through
the rest of the set, outscoring Northview 11-2 to take the second set and force
a deciding third.
West Greene 2, Northview 0
In a rematch of last year’s Class A Championship Game, West Greene got some payback on the Lady Choctaws, defeating Northview in straight sets to end the orange and white’s chances at a repeat.
West Greene jumped out to a 4-0 lead early before Northview
rallied to cut it to a point with three straight to answer. A Hayes kill kept
the Lady Choctaws down by one moments later. But, four straight points from
West Greene built their lead to five before a kill from Hayes and a block from
Milligan led to a 3-0 run by the Lady Choctaws.
West Greene answered to build its lead back up to 24-17 late
in the set. Kills from Hayes and Milligan fended off set point momentarily
before West Greene took the set, 25-19.
Northview took an early 3-1 lead but the tide quickly turned as West Greene went on a 9-2 run. From there, West Greene outscored Northview 10-5 to take the second set, 25-10, and the match.
Northview ends the season with a 16-4 record.
