Dyer County falls to Marshall County in second round

 


The Dyer County Choctaws saw their season come to an end on Friday night in Lewisburg are the orange and white fell to Marshall County, 41-14, in the second round of the TSSAA Class 4A Playoffs.

The Choctaws took an early lead when Dyer County put together an eight-play, 65-yard drive which was capped by a three-yard run by Keanthony Barbee. Jonatham Powell’s extra point put the Choctaws on top 7-0 with 8:22 left in the opening quarter.

Marshall County was quick to answer, getting a 73-yard touchdown run on the first play of the ensuing Tiger drive by Tot Gardner to put Marshall County on the board with 8:01 left in the first quarter. The extra point tied the game at 7-7.

The Choctaws battled back with another scoring drive, this one covering eight-plays and 80 yards. Barbee again capped the drive with a scoring run, a one-yard touchdown dive. Powell’s extra point put Dyer County back on top 14-7 with 3:29 left in the opening quarter.

But, from then on, it was all Marshall County as the Tigers scored 34 unanswered points to eliminate the Choctaws and get the win.

Barbee led the way on the ground for the Choctaws with 70 of the teams 88 rushing yards. Quarterback Landon Daniels was 7-of-10 for 72 yards in his final game with Dyer County.

The loss ends the Choctaws’ season with a record of 9-3.
