Dyersburg Middle girls rally in second half for win

The DMS Lady Trojans found themselves trailing by four
following a slow start by the black and gold. The Lady Trojans made up for it
in the second half, taking the lead in the third quarter in the process of
pulling away from Crockett for a 39-29 win on Tuesday night at Dyersburg Middle
School.
TJ Jones led the way for the Lady Trojans in the opening quarter, scoring three as the black and gold trailed 10-7 at the end of one frame.
Crockett County was able to add to its lead in the second
quarter. But, the Lady Trojan defense minimalized it as a three-pointer and two
free throws from Desleign Strayhorn along with a bucket from Morgan Eakin kept
DMS within striking distance at 18-14 at the break.
The Lady Trojans opened the second half on fire, defensively
allowing only three points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Jones led the way
with a nine-point frame to help DMS take a 29-21 lead into the fourth quarter.
From there, a balanced scoring effort from the Lady Trojans
sealed the 10-point win for DMS.
Jones paced Dyersburg with 18 points in the win.
Crockett County 42, Dyersburg 33
The Cavaliers got a big lead at the end of the first quarter then held off the Trojans to get the win.
DMS was held to just four points in the first quarter, coming
from LaBradford Gause and Everett Tyus. The Cavaliers started off slow scoring
four points in the opening frame as well. But, Crockett then rumbled down the stretch
in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead at the half.
After heading into the fourth quarter with the Cavaliers on
top 40-23 lead, Dyersburg battled back to cut the lead to under ten late in the
game before Crockett County sealed the victory.
Elijah Dennie led the way for the Trojans with eight points
in the loss.
Dyersburg returns to action on Thursday to conclude a busy
week which sees the Trojans and Lady Trojans hosting Ripley at 6 p.m.
