Dyer County boys fall to Caruthersville

In a back-and-forth game on a night featuring only boys’ action, Dyer County saw their lead vanish late after a Tiger run pushed Caruthersville, Mo. past the Choctaws, 82-73, on Tuesday night in Newbern.

Dyer County took a three-point lead into the final frame and was able to carry the advantage into the final minutes of the game thanks to a six-point fourth quarter from Clay Dodds and a three-pointer from Jayden Tyler. But, the Tigers caught fire late with a 12-0 run which saw them overtake a cooled-off Dyer County offense and propel themselves to the nine-point win over the Choctaws.

Clay Dodds led the way for the Choctaws with 23 points while Ryker Hayes added 15 in the loss. Bo Dodds tossed in 10 for the orange and white.

Dyer County will return to action on Thursday when the Choctaws travel to Ripley for a rematch with the Tigers. The doubleheader begins with girls action tipping off at 6 p.m.

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball.
