Dyer County sweeps Camden to complete unbeaten week

Dyer County’s boys picked up their second win in a row on Thursday night in Newbern, holding off a persistent Camden Central Tigers on the way to a 65-59 victory.

Trailing by four heading into the second quarter, Dyer County got a big final eight minutes of the first half from senior Clay Dodds. In helping the Choctaws overtake the Lions, Dodds hit a pair of three-pointers along with three deuces to score 12 of the team’s 25 points in the frame. Dyer County’s defense held Camden to 11 points in the frame to take a 36-26 lead into the half.

The Lions were able to get their offense going in the third quarter but Dyer County answered them point for point. The Choctaw third quarter was highlighted by five points each from Ryker Hayes and Dodds to give the orange and white a 52-40 lead heading into the final frame.

The Choctaws were able to build a bigger lead in the fourth quarter before the Lions rallied late to make things interesting. The Dyer County defense held the line to seal the six-point win for the Choctaws.

Dodds led the way for the Choctaws with 26 points while Hayes and Grant West each added 11 in the win.

The Lady Choctaws added another win to their 2025-26 total on Thursday night, defeating visiting Camden by 16 points in Newbern.

Led by four points each from Ava Pearson and Molly Roberts, the Lady Choctaws took a 12-4 lead after one quarter.

Roberts again paced the Lady Choctaws in the second quarter with five points while Alexis Parkin added four in the final eight minutes of the first half. Dyer County’s defense held Camden to six points to take a 24-10 lead at the break.

Pearson set the tone for the Lady Choctaws with six points in the third quarter while Julie Cogdill added four for the orange and white. Dyer County outscored Camden Central 16-11 in the third frame to take a 40-21 lead into the final frame.

From there, the Lady Choctaws held on to get the win.

Cogdill and Roberts led the way for the Lady Choctaws with 14 points while Pearson added 10 in the win.

Dyer County returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 16 when the Lady Choctaws and Choctaws host Lake County at 6 p.m.
