The Dyersburg Trojans brought the 2025 Charles Cowles
Classic to a close on Saturday night, jumping out to an early lead then holding
on late for a 63-48 win over McNairy Central in Night 2 of the Classic in the
Terry Glover Gymnasium.
The Trojans were firing on all cylinders early on, specifically Jace Ward. Following a 29-point performance on Friday night, the junior’s tear through the classic continued into the first quarter with a trio of three-pointers as part of a 17-point opening frame to help Dyersburg to a 24-8 lead after one.
The Bobcats were able to make up some ground in the second
quarter. But, the Dyersburg defense made sure it wasn’t much as the black and
gold held the Bobcats to 16 points. Meanwhile, a balanced scoring attack led by
five points from Demonte Johnson helped keep the Trojan lead at 38-24 at the
half.
The Dyersburg offense struggled in the third quarter as the Trojans
were limited to just seven points in the first eight minutes of the second
half. The black and gold defense kept the Bobcats from completely catching the
Trojans as Dyersburg led 45-41 heading into the final frame.
The Dyersburg offense responded in the fourth quarter as the
Trojans got eight points from Cam Rhines and four each by Ward and Isaiah Thomas.
The Dyersburg defense kept the Bobcats in check to seal the win for the
Trojans.
Ward led the way for the Trojans with 26 points while Rhines
added 14 in the win.
Dyersburg will return to action after Christmas when the
Trojans travel to the Alcorn Central Classic at Glenn, Miss. beginning on
Monday, Dec. 29.
