Lady Trojans, Trojan sweep in home opener

The Dyersburg Lady Trojans picked up their third win in a
row and their second of the week as the black and gold returned home for the
first time since before Thanksgiving to defeat Humboldt, 44-33, on Friday night
in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.
Dyersburg got off to a good start thanks to an eight-point opening
frame by Chelby Jordan as the Lady Trojans took a 14-7 lead after one quarter.
The black and gold defense continued to keep the Lady Vikings
in check during the second quarter, holding Humboldt to only eight points in
the final eight minutes of the first half. Dyersburg was able to tack onto its
lead in the second stanza. Aerie Quinn added four points to her total after a
six-point opening frame while Kaliyah Lewis tossed in five to help Dyersburg
take a 27-15 halftime lead.
Quinn paced Dyersburg in the third quarter with six points
as the Lady Trojans took a comfortable 38-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Though the Lady Vikings were able to cut into the Dyersburg
lead as the Lady Trojans went to their bench, the black and gold maintained
their lead on the way to the 11-point win.
Quinn led the Lady Trojans with 16 points while Jordan was
right behind her with 15.
Dyersburg boys 81, Humboldt 49
The Trojans picked up their fourth win in five games as the
black and gold jumped out to a big lead early on the way to a 32-point win.
Jace Ward scored 10 of the Trojans’ 16 points in the opening
frame as Dyersburg’s defense shut down the Vikings early for a 16-8 lead after
one quarter.
Seven more points by Ward led the way for the Dyersburg boys
in the second quarter. The Trojans were able to tack onto their lead by one
point, taking a 29-20 lead into the half.
KB Parr led the way for the Trojans in the third quarter,
scoring 11 points in the frame. Dyersburg’s defense held the black and gold to
11 points while scoring 26 in the first eight minutes of the second half to
take a 55-31 lead into the final frame.
The Trojans then cruised to the win with a strong fourth
quarter.
Ward led four Dyersburg players in double figures with 17
points while Cam Rhines and Parr added 11. Jayce Ellerbrook tossed in 10 in the
win.
After their first night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium
together, Dyersburg’s girls and boys will not be in the Terry Glover Gymnasium together
again until Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
Dyersburg’s girls return to action on Friday, Dec. 19 when
the Lady Trojans travel to the White County Christmas Tournament. The Trojans
will be at home next weekend when they host the Charles Cowles Classic on
Friday and Saturday.
