To the tune of five three-pointers in each of the first two
quarters, the Lady Trojans remained undefeated in District 13-3A play as the
black and gold led by almost 50 at the half on the way to a 82-31 win over Dyer
County on Friday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.
A pair of Aerie Quinn three-pointers served to foreshadow the way things would go for both teams in the first half. Alayna Leedy briefly cut into the Dyersburg lead with a layup but a bucket from Brie Parr opened a 15-0 run which saw two three-pointers from Zya Currie as well as another by Laya Currie to take a 23-4 lead. Molly Roberts briefly stopped the bleeding with a trey for the Lady Choctaws before Parr sparked an 8-0 run by the Lady Trojans to give the black and gold a commanding 32-7 lead after one quarter.
Dyersburg’s dominant play continued into the second quarter a
free throw from Laya Currie and a trey by Chelby Jordan pushed the Lady Trojan
lead to 26 points early in the second quarter. Dyer County got closer with a
quick run capped by a Leedy free throw. The Lady Trojans dominated the final
4:30 over the first half as a Kaliyah Lewis bucket opened a 27-2 run by
Dyersburg highlighted with two treys from Jordan and single ones from Lily Kate
Jones and Kathleen Harrell. Following the big run by the Lady Trojans, the
black and gold lead swelled to 65-16 at the half.
Highlighted by a Harrell three-pointer, Dyersburg pushed its lead to 74-24 heading into the final frame.
From there, with the clock running and the mercy rule in
effect, Dyersburg cruised to the district win over the Lady Choctaws.
Jordan led all scorers with 27 points while Quinn added 15.
Parr and Laya Currie each tossed in 10 in the victory.
The Lady Choctaws were led by Molly Roberts with eight
points in the loss.
Dyersburg returns to action on Tuesday when the Lady Trojans
