Choctaw season ends with quarterfinal loss to Crockett County

For the first time in 20 seasons, Dyer County’s boys will not be a part of a region tournament as the Choctaws fell to a buzzer-beater against Crockett County, 53-50, in the District 13-3A Quarterfinals on Thursday night at South Gibson High School in Medina.

With the Choctaws on top 48-41 heading into the fourth quarter, the Crockett County offense surged gradually through the final frame. The Cavaliers got three-pointers from Cortland Reddick, Kevin Pledge, and Brilan Dunigan to take a 50-48 lead late in the game. Dyer County was finally able to answer with under two minutes left with a bucket from Ryker Hayes.

But, the Cavaliers ran down the clock to get the last shot as Reddick hit his second trey of the quarter as time ran out to give Crockett County the three-point win and the spot in the District 13-3A Semifinals.

Triston Seabourn led the way for the Choctaws with 21 points while Devin Hayward added nine in the loss.

The loss ends the Choctaws’ season with a record of 16-11. Dyer County’s boys will miss the region tournament for the first time since 2005-06, the year before Derek McCord became the orange and white’s head coach.
