DMS Lady Trojans pull away from Inman in region semifinals

Playing for the first time in two weeks, the Lady Trojans picked up a big postseason win on Friday afternoon at home, answering a third-quarter rally by Paris Inman to dominate the rest of the second half on the way to a 56-39 win over the Lady Bulldogs in the TMSAA Region 6AA Semifinals in Dyersburg.


Dyersburg was able to end the first half on an 8-0 run but Inman started out the second half strong. While holding the Lady Trojans to just a Desleign Strayhorn bucket over the first three minutes of the third quarter. In the meantime, the Lady Bulldogs rattled off ten points to cut the Dyersburg Middle lead to 26-25 with just under three minutes left in the frame.

The stretch of the third quarter would belong to the Lady Trojans and Strayhorn. The eighth-grader scored eight points over the final 2:08 of the third stanza while Dyersburg’s defense limited the Lady Bulldogs to just a field goal on the way to 34-26 lead heading into the final frame.

A bucket from Strayhorn and a three-pointer by Taj Jones pushed the Dyersburg lead to 13 points early in the fourth quarter. Inman cut briefly into the lead but the Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bulldogs 10-4 over the next two minutes to build the Dyersburg lead to 49-33. Later in the frame, a three-point play from Jaslyn Thompson helped the black and gold outscore Inman 7-2 down the stretch to secure the win and a spot in Saturday afternoon’s TMSAA Region 6AA Championship Game against North Parkway in Jackson.

Strayhorn led all scorers with 33 points in the win, including 20 in the second half. Jones tossed in 14 in the win.

Dyersburg will play North Parkway on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the TMSAA Region 6AA Championship Game in Jackson.

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball.
