Lake County boys clinch share of District 14-A Regular Season title

For the first time since 2012, the Lake County Falcons are at the top of their district as the green and gold cruised to a 61-33 win over South Fulton in Tiptonville on Thursday night to close out the regular season as the co-champions of District 14-A for the 2025-26 campaign.
The game was close early on as three-pointers from Aikee Ward
and Xander Hertel helped the Falcons take a 12-8 lead after the opening quarter.
With Jax Poole leading the way for the Falcons with eight points
as the Lake County scoring slowed, the green and gold tacked on a point to its
lead in the third frame and held a 48-29 advantage heading into the final
frame.
From there, the Falcons outscored the Red Devils 13-4 down
the stretch to seal the win on Senior Night in the regular season finale.
On the night he received his 1,000-point ball, Ward led the way
with 15 points for the Falcons while Poole tossed in 12.
Lake County lost a coin flip on Thursday to decide the top
seed in next week’s District 14-A Tournament at Bethel and will go in as the No.
2 seed.
Lake County girls 54, South Fulton 32
The Lady Falcons honored their three seniors with a win on
Senior Night to close out the regular season on a positive note.
Fittingly, senior Mariah Valentine led the way for the Lady Falcons
in the opening quarter to set the tone as she scored 10 of the team’s 14 points
on the way to a 14-4 lead at the end of one frame.
Lake County added to its lead in the second frame as a
nine-point stanza led the way for the Lady Falcons took a 31-11 lead at the
half.
Aided by a five-point frame by sophomore Laken Chism, Valentine
capped off her scoring night in the third quarter with seven to help the Lady Falcons
take a 45-27 lead into the fourth frame.
Lake County senior Destaney Mullins led the way for the Lady
Falcons in the fourth quarter with five points to help seal the win for the Lake
County girls.
Valentine led the way for the Lady Falcons with 25 points
while Chism added 10 in the win.
Lake County will host the District 14-A Tournament play-in
game on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. and will face South Fulton in an elimination
game.
