Morgan homer highlights big inning in Trojan win over Tipton Christian

A pair of seven-run innings were more than enough for the Trojans to close out the Aaron Schuh Tournament with a 17-1 win over Tipton Christian Academy on Friday in Dyersburg.


Dyersburg scored early and often in the bottom of the first inning. With one out in the frame, JP Noblin tripled then scored on an Alex Page single to put the Trojans on the board. Ryan Wesson followed with a sacrifice fly two batters later. Brett Horner drew a walk then Logston Morgan cleared the bases with a three-run blast to left to put the Trojans on top by six. Noblin added to the lead later in the inning with a bases-loaded walk to put Dyersburg on top 7-0 after one inning.

Two innings later, Dyersburg added to its lead with an Evan Thompson home run then a two-run double by Horner later in the inning to go up 10-0 after three frames.

Tipton Christian was able to tack on a run in the top of the fourth but Dyersburg answered quickly and decisively in the bottom of the inning. A flurry of walks led to seven Trojan runs and put Dyersburg on top 17-1, bringing the game to an end via mercy rule.

Page led the way for Dyersburg with three singles and two runs driven in in the win.

Thompson went the distance for the Trojans, allowing one run on one hit in four innings of work.

Dyersburg returns to action on Monday when the Trojans host Scotts Hill at 4:30 p.m.

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball. DAC Director Patrick Holden, talked about how this agreement came about. “Tyler Baker with Grand Slam Baseball reached out to me about wanting to bring some travel baseball tournaments this fall to Dyersburg,” Holden recalled. “We have always been pretty much softball only, rec softball and travel ball. “So, that’s when I reached out to Kyle Hinson, president of the Diamond Youth Baseball Organization.” Holden explained that when he learned most of these travel baseball tournaments are two-day events, he reached out to the local DYB league for help and a chance to benefit both organi...
