DMS Trojan soccer blanks Dyer County

Dyersburg Middle scored early in the opening half but Dyer County was able to hold the Trojans there for the rest of the half before a trio of second-half goals by the black and gold clinched the 4-0 victory for DMS on Wednesday evening at J.C. Sawyers Stadium in middle school soccer action.


Dyersburg got on the board early in the opening half as Levi Koonce put the Trojans on the board in the fifth minute to give DMS a 1-0 lead.

The Trojan defense played well throughout the first half but Dyer County, despite allowing some shots on goal, were able to keep the game at a 1-0 deficit through the first 30 minutes of the game.

The Trojans finally added to their lead in the first minutes of the second half. A goal from Thomas Nolan pushed the Dyersburg advantage to 2-0 in the 34th minute.

Dyersburg continued to hold the Choctaws at bay. In the meantime, the Trojans got a goal from Emilo Martin in the 49th minute to make it a three-goal lead.

The black and gold capped the scoring in the 55th minute with a goal off the boot of Cooper Duggan.

Dyersburg returns to action on April 27 in the first round of the West Tennessee Regional Soccer Conference Tournament. Dyer County travels to Ripley on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball.
