ICYMI: Lake County rally comes up just short in loss to Peabody

Despite an eight-run deficit heading into the final half inning of Thursday night’s contest with Peabody in Tiptonville, the Falcons put on a clinic of how not to give up in the face of long odds.

Lake County scored seven times in its half of the seventh before falling to the Tide, 9-8, in non-district action, to fall to 15-5 on the season.

After a single from Cade Lanier and A MOLINA was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the seventh, J CLANTON was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. B JOHNSON singled in a run then R RAGAN cleared the bases with a double to cut the Peabody lead to four runs. H METOYER was intentionally walked to set up a force at first, second and third. But, CAMDEN Lanier singled in another run to cut further into the lead.

A strikeout followed and put the Falcons down to their final out. But, Lake County got right on the heels of the Tide, scoring two when Cade Lanier reached on an error, ending up at third base as the tying run. But, Peabody was able to strike out the following batter to escape the green and gold’s home field with a one-run win.

Metoyer led the way for Lake County with a second-inning solo homer and a single while Ragan had a single and a double. Johnson added two singles in the loss.

J COCHRAN took the loss for the Falcons on the mound, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.

Lake County returns to action on Wednesday when the Falcons travel to Union City at 5 p.m.
