DMS run holds up for shutout win over Northview

An early second-quarter score proved to be the difference on Thursday night in Newbern as a 26-yard scamper from DMS Trojan Devanti White was enough to give Dyersburg Middle School the win despite Northview getting inside the red zone on multiple occasions.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Trojans were able to drive down the field following a turnover on downs by Northview. The game’s only score game with 6:19 left in the half as White was able to avoid an early tackle and get loose for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, leaving Dyersburg on top 6-0.


Northview looked to get into the end zone later in the half but a long run by the Choctaws to inside the DMS 5-yard line was negated by a penalty on the play. The DMS defense, which had bent, did not break and held Northview out of the end zone to secure the shutout through halftime.

The Choctaws were able to get into the red zone twice during the second half but penalties again hampered the Northview effort as Dyersburg held on for the win.

Dyersburg returns to action on Thursday, Aug. 20 when the Trojans travel to Brighton at 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Northview is on the road next Thursday, as well. The Choctaws will head to Haywood for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Dyersburg Activity Center and the Dyersburg Diamond Youth Baseball league will be working together to host three tournaments this fall with Grand Slam Baseball.
