Dyer County cruises past Dyersburg in district tilt

Dyer County continued its control of the volleyball court in District 13AA action as the Lady Choctaws needed just three sets for a second straight night in league play, defeating the Lady Trojans on Tuesday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.


Dyer County came out hot to start the opening set, taking a 10-1 lead after kills from Blair Agee and Katie Beth Caldwell. Dyersburg was able to cut into the lead momentarily with a run highlighted by a Sadie Frye kill to help pull the Lady Trojans to an 11-5 deficit. But, Dyer County ended strong with aces from Ady B. Harrison and Ella Beasley to take the first set 25-13.

Though Dyersburg got a couple quick points to take a lead, the Lady Choctaws stormed back to take a 9-3 advantage following a Zoey Morris ace. Dyersburg battled back with an Ariah Ward kill to cut into the lead. Dyer County clinched the set down the stretch with a long run highlighted by a Caldwell ace to take the second set 25-9 despite a Murphy Mae Morgan kill late in the frame.

The Lady Choctaws continued to control the pace with an ace from Harrison. Dyersburg’s third-set effort was highlighted by a block and a kill from Morgan. The Lady Choctaws clinched the set with a late kill from Caldwell and an ace by Morris to take the third and final set 25-16.

Dyer County returns to action on the road on Thursday when the Lady Choctaws travel to Troy to take on Obion County Central at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans will host South Gibson in District 13AA action at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.
